Alyssa Glover Nets Game-Winner With 14 Ticks Remaining

LARAMIE -- Better not let her get loose.

Alyssa Glover, fresh off an 11-goal campaign in 2025 -- the top offensive production in the Mountain West Conference --  weaved her way through traffic, deked out the goalkeeper and slid the game-winner into the back of the net with just 14 seconds remaining in regulation.

Wyoming knocked off Missouri Valley favorite Drake, 1-0, in its soggy season opener Thursday inside the Madrid Sports Complex.

“Obviously a grinder. We made it harder on ourselves at times,” head coach Josh Purdum said. “It was the first game, and there were probably a lot of nerves and shaking out the cobwebs, as we were playing in front of a great crowd. I think we had a lot of the momentum and a lot of the game in hand – being a player up we should see quality chances in front of goal – and it took us to the last second to get it done.”

The clinching sequence began with a simple roll-out pass from goalie Haley Bartel to Raegan Richardson. The senior from Arizona briefly carried the ball up field before dishing it to Maddie Burr, who immediately lofted a perfect pass, finding a streaking Glover over the middle.

The fifth-year senior from Cherry Creek High School took care of the rest.

That was Glover’s 20th career tally. She also continues to climb the rungs of the program's history books, now tied for fourth all-time in goals. Her 49-career points vaults her into fifth.

Speaking of records, Bartel’s clean sheet was the 19th of her career. That ties her for the school’s best mark all-time.

Bartel only needed two saves for the shutout. That was a byproduct of a couple different things. Yes, Wyoming put constant pressure on Drake, but the Bulldogs were also playing with just 10 after a second yellow disqualified Alanna Pennington in the 38th minute.

Drake goalkeeper, Addie Ford, turned away four shots. Zoey Mahoney led the Bulldogs with a pair of shots.

The Cowgirls, who were picked to finish second in the preseason Mountain West poll, finished with a 19-4 edge in shots and a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. Burr and Jennah Wanner accounted for the most with four apiece. Lauren Westwood had three to her name, while Glover and Hadley Linder each fired two shots.

The Pokes take to the road over the weekend. They travel to Northern Colorado on Sunday for a 6 p.m. match at Jackson Stadium.
