TEMPE, Ariz., -- Wyoming will be without its starting tight end tonight in the desert.

John Michael Gyllenborg, a junior tight end, is dealing with a "lower-body injury" and is listed as "doubtful," according to a UW spokesperson.

Gyllenborg did take part in warmups but was not wearing cleats. He is currently in street clothes on the Cowboys sideline. When he will return to the lineup is unknown.

Nick Miles, a 6-foot-5, 255-pound senior from Parker, Colo., is listed as Gyllenborg's backup on the initial depth chart. Sophomore Isaac Shoenfeld could also see additional time tonight along with fullback Caleb Driskill, who lined up at the tight end position during spring and fall camp.

The 6-foot-5, 247-pound Leawood, Kan., product hauled in 19 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns, including a score in double overtime in the 2023 season opener against Texas Tech. Gyllenborg landed on the Mackay Award Watch List this offseason and was named to the preseason All-Mountain West team in July.

The Cowboys will also be without running back Harrison Waylee against the Sun Devils. The senior suffered a knee injury midway through fall camp and underwent surgery. Though there is not an official timeframe for his return, Waylee is expected back "early" in the season.

Fellow running back Dawaiian McNeely is also making his way back from a torn ACL he suffered in 2023.

DJ Jones, an offseason addition from North Carolina, is expected to start against Arizona State. Sam Scott and Jamari Ferrell will also likely receive carries in this one.

Kickoff in Tempe is slated for 8:30 p.m. Mountain Time and the game will be televised on FS1.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
