Buffalo Bills Pick Up Josh Allen’s 5th Year Option
In what was a no-brainer, the Buffalo Bills announced today that they officially pick up the 5th year options on former first-round draft picks Josh Allen and Tremaine Edmunds.
Both players were picked in the 1st round of the 2018 NFL draft, Allen was selected 7th overall, and Edmunds was picked 16th overall.
Both players have developed into key clogs on the opposite sides of the ball. Allen, who was in the running for NFL MVP last season, saw his career numbers skyrocket in his third season in the league. Allen threw for 4,544 yards and 37 touchdowns and took the Bills to the AFC championship game where they went on to lose the Kansas City Chiefs.
Edmunds has also come out of the gate quickly for the Buffalo Bills. In his three seasons, Edmunds has been named to the NFL pro bowl twice and has recorded 355 career tackles along with 5.5 sacks.
According to Over The Cap's website Allen would be fully guaranteed a salary of $23.1 million dollars for the 2022 season while Edmunds would be guaranteed around $12.7 million dollars.
Of course, the Bills will work with both players on signing both players to long-term deals that would keep them here in Buffalo for a long time while spreading out the NFL Cap hit over several years.
Based on past quarterback contracts, Allen could see a deal worth well over $100 million dollars.
Today is the deadline for NFL teams to exercise the 5th year options on players drafted in the first round of the 2018 draft.
