LARAMIE -- University of Wyoming redshirt freshman defensive end Solomon Byrd was named the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-American Watch List on Wednesday.

Byrd heads into this weekend’s contest with Nevada with 22 tackles for the season and leads the Pokes with 3.5 sacks. He ranks fourth in the Mountain West and No. 64 in the nation in sacks per game at 0.58. He has also added 5.5 tackles for loss and for 1.1 per game.

He had a career game at Tulsa earlier this season where he added six tackles, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble and recovery.

Sophomore center Keegan Cryder was named an FWAA Freshman All-American last season and senior linebacker Logan Wilson earned the honor in 2016.
