SAN DIEGO -- The last time these two squads met there was hardware on the line.

That was the 2016 Mountain West Championship game in frigid Laramie. The Aztecs found a way late, knocking off the Pokes, 27-24.

Wyoming holds the slight edge in the all-time series, 19-18, but these old WAC rivals have played some doozies over the years, including in the regular season of that 2016 season.

Once again it was in Laramie.

Once again is was cold.

But this time, the Cowboys prevailed over the No. 25 Aztecs, 34-33, sending the fans into a frenzy.

Let's take a look at some fun facts about SDSU.

Actress and singer, Raquel Welch, is an alum. So is Carl Weathers, also known as "Chubbs Peterson" in Happy Gilmore. Marion Ross of "Happy Days" fame is an Aztec, so is Jason Lewis from "Sex in the City."

Kathleen Kennedy, the producer of "E.T." and the voice behind Marge from "The Simpsons," Julie Kavner, went to SDSU.

There's a pretty impressive list of athletes that once played or coached in San Diego, too.

Marshall Faulk, Tony Gwynn, Stephen Strasburg, Kawhi Leonard, Joe Gibbs, Don Coryell, Kirk Morrison, Herm Edwards, Donnel Pumphrey, Bud Black, Mark Grace, John Madden, Webster Slaughter, Kyle Turley and Kassim Osgood, among many others.

San Diego is must-see
On a side note, for those that really know me, I am not exactly an adventurous kind of guy. What I mean by that is I know what I like -- I stick to what I know.

Friday night in San Diego, I tried some new stuff. I had dinner with my friend, Ryan, next to the ocean off Coronado Island. It was the dream scene, honestly. And the food ... it was not too shabby. I don't do seafood, so this is breaking news in my world.

I'm sorry in advance for the paradise photos when much of Wyoming has been an ice box the past couple of days. I don't want to be that guy. Just thought you might enjoy some sights from the road.

That's a seafood tower with the San Diego skyline in the distance. I could go without oysters -- that was rough going down -- but the shrimp, lobster, tuna and Alaskan crab was solid. Rocky Mountain Oysters on the other hand ... count me in!

That is octopus. Talk about flying out of my comfort zone. It was actually really good though.

Coronado Island is a cool joint. Great views from all over the place. Fun atmosphere.

Here is the Gaslamp District in downtown San Diego. Met some Wyoming folks at a bar down there Thursday night. I met someone from Jeffrey City, Casper and Evanston. Great people. I'm sure that doesn't surprise anyone.

This is the backroom of the Tivoli Bar downtown. Really cool dive bar with plenty of proof that this city once had an NFL football team. Even though I am a Broncos fan, it's sad to see the Chargers playing football in a soccer stadium in Los Angeles.
