Cowgirls Best Cleveland State in Four

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team ran its winning streak to five straight to begin the 2024 season behind the strength of a four-set victory Saturday morning at Cleveland State. Wyoming won 25-23, 25-14, 21-25 and 25-16.

The Cowgirls (5-0), who have now won 16-straight regular season non-conference matches, held on to win the first set thanks to back-to-back points after the Vikings had tied things at 23-23. UW dominated the second and fourth sets on the day.
Emma Winter led a Cowgirl offense that hit a season-best .277 in the win, with a career-high 15 kills. Winter hit .367 in the contest and also notched six block assists. Sarah Holcomb added nine kills on .438 efficiency while leading the way with nine total blocks in the match. Paige Lauterwasser added eight kills while Kayla Mazzocca chipped in with seven kills and five blocks.
Kasia Partyka once again spearheaded the offense as she recorded 41 assists and five kills. Partyka also added a pair of blocks and eight digs, as well as two service aces. Skylar Erickson led the Cowgirls with three aces in the win while Sierra Grizzle and Lauterwasser also had a pair of aces as UW tallied nine for the match.
Grizzle led the match with 21 digs from her libero spot while Lauterwasser had 13. Kendal Rivera chipped in with nine digs.
For the match as a team, the Cowgirls had nine aces to CSU’s four and committed one fewer serving error. UW also enjoyed a 14-6 advantage in team blocks. Both teams had 49 kills.
Next week, the Cowgirls will look to continue their run to begin the season in Colorado at the CU Buffs Invitational.
