Cowgirls move up the standings at Thunderbird Invitational

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Cowgirls golf finished with a 297 (+9), a seven-stroke improvement from the opening round, to move up to sixth in the team standings Saturday in the Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Club.

Senior Kyla Wilde and sophomore Kira Reisner each shot 73 (+1) in the second round to lead Wyoming, which moved up from eighth place.

Reisner (147, +3) is tied for eighth through 36 holes. Former UW standout Jadan Gonzalez shared the individual trophy in 2024 at the 12-team event hosted by Southern Utah.

Junior Sophie Spiva and senior Meghan Vogt are both +8 and freshman Emerson Purcell (+16) bounced back from an opening round 84 by carding a 76 on Saturday.

"Solid round today for the team," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "They played much more decisive and also scrambled without losing patience."

UC Riverside (+6) leads the 54-hole tournament and Stetson's Julieta Oviedo (-1) is the only player under par through 36 holes.

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.
