The Cowgirls (17-8, 6-8 MW) controlled the majority of the first and second sets and were able to hold off late SJSU rallies to take a 2-0 lead in the match. After the Spartans prevailed in a back-and-forth third set, that featured extra points, Wyoming bounced back in a big way to close things out in the fourth set, cruising to securing the victory.

Wyoming hit .328 in the victory while holding the Spartans to a .160 team hitting percentage. The Cowgirls more than doubled-up SJSU in blocks, 14-6 and had nine service aces to the Spartans’ eight. Both teams had just one serving error on the afternoon.

Paige Lauterwasser had the best match of her young career as she set a career-best with a team-high 13 kills while hitting .550. Corin Carruth also logged double-digit kills in the win with 10 and hit .348. Rylee Schulz added nine kills while Sarah Holcomb and Tierney Barlow added eight and seven, respectively.

At the net, the Cowgirls were all over defensively. Kasia Partyka led the way with six total blocks in the match while Barlow and Holcomb tallied six each. Carruth added three block assists.

Partyka also led the way at the service line, tying a career-best with four. Sierra Grizzle had a pair of aces and also notched a team-high 10 digs from her libero position. Skylar Erickson, Schulz and Zoee Smith had nine digs apiece. Partyka paced the UW offense with 38 assists and also added another eight digs of her own.

With the win, Wyoming split its first week of two consecutive weeks on the road. The Cowgirls return to action at San Diego State Thursday for a 7 p.m., Mountain Time contest.
