Wyoming Preparing for Two CSU Quarterbacks Ahead of Opener

LARAMIE -- On this very date one year ago, Hauss Hejny completed 5-of-10 first-quarter throws for 96 yards and a touchdown in a 27-7 victory over UT-Martin.

He also rushed for 27 yards on four attempts. The Aledo, Texas product found the end zone with his legs from six yards out, capping Oklahoma State's opening offensive drive of the season.

The then-redshirt freshman quarterback spent the next 45 minutes of game time in severe pain on the sideline. A broken bone in his left foot derailed his lone year in Stillwater.

K'saan Farrar had a front-row seat to Joe Fagnano's breakout campaign last fall at UConn.

The latter threw for 3,448 yards and 28 touchdowns. He tossed just one interception while leading Jim Mora's Huskies to their second consecutive nine-win season, something that has never before happened in program history.

Farrar found his way into two games, one a 41-16 blowout loss to Army. He connected on 11-of-17 throws that day for just 84 yards. He also scrambled for a touchdown.

One of these signal callers above will be under center in next Saturday's Border War in Fort Collins.

"We're going to name a starter probably about 4:02 p.m. on Sept. 5 and not before that," said Mora, who is entering his first season as the head coach at Colorado State.

Jay Sawvel has heard.

So how will Wyoming prepare for the potential of either quarterback starting the opener?

"They're both talented and they're both athletic," the Cowboys' third-year head coach said on Friday, referring to Hejny and Farrar. "To some degree, we don't know how they're going to use all their people, anyway, so the thing that we're going to have to do, no matter who the quarterback is, is be structurally sound at everything that we do and also be very conscious."

Both possess good speed, something that has been on Sawvel's radar since the duo announced they were CSU bound, but if experience is the determining factor, Henjy, pronounced HOSS HAY-nee, has the leg up.

Before transferring to OSU ahead of the 2025 season, the former 4-star recruit appeared in four games at TCU. While he didn't attempt a single throw, he did rush for 65 yards on 15 carries, helping lead the Horned Frogs to four impressive road victories over Stanford, Kansas, Utah and Cincinnati.

He followed that up by beating out veteran starter Zane Flores in fall camp.

Henjy, who was the No. 12-ranked QB in the country, led his high school team to back-to-back 5A state championships, too. He won his final 30 games as a starter.

Farrar turned down offers from Buffalo, East Carolina, Charlotte, Marshall and Liberty before heading to Storrs. He was the top-rated prep quarterback in the state of Virginia, according to 247sports, after throwing for 3,086 yards and 36 touchdowns during his senior season at Green Run High School. He also added 577 yards on the ground and crossed the white stripe seven more times.

"Maybe quarterback run will be a part of their offense? Maybe it won't be, and you just have mobile guys that can extend plays or scramble?" Sawvel said. "Then it turns into rush lanes become a big deal, and those types of things. I would imagine, with two good athletes like what they have, that quarterback-run game will be some element to their offense. It may only be inside the red zone, but there will be some element to it just because those guys move really well and they have two of them."

Jayden Williams is banking on that, too. All of it.

Wyoming's 294-pound defensive tackle said he isn't the least bit concerned about preparing for Henjy or Farrar. His focus is on plugging holes, no matter who is back there barking out calls.

"All we know is that they will try to run it," the junior from Bryan, Texas said. "So we have to keep them contained, be at our contained points, defensively, and make sure to keep our rush lanes even so we can't let anything spill and make it toward the secondary."

Sounds simple enough, right?
