Here’s everything you need to know about Saturday’s game in Reno
LARAMIE -- Last year's meeting between these two schools was lopsided.
To say the least.
Wyoming scored on its first offensive play from scrimmage and the defense held Nevada out of the end zone all afternoon in a dominating 31-3 victory inside War Memorial Stadium. The Cowboys moved to 6-2 on the season.
Wyoming was bowl eligible, but this game also served as a major turning point in the Cowboys' season.
Craig Bohl's bunch was facing a brutal November schedule that included trips to Boise State, Utah State and Air Force, and a home matchup with Border War rival Colorado State.
And they did it without their starting quarterback, Sean Chambers.
Wyoming's redshirt freshman signal caller suffered a season-ending knee injury when he dove into the end zone midway through the first quarter.
The Pokes would go 1-3 down the stretch and punch their ticket to the Arizona Bowl and a meeting with Georgia State. Wyoming won that one, 38-17. The Wolfpack finished 7-6 and fell to Ohio 30-21 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
Here's an interesting tidbit about these two schools.
Back in 1992, Nevada made the jump to the Division-I level and the Big West Conference. The Wolf Pack's first game as an FBS member was in Laramie.
Joe Tiller's Cowboys rolled to an easy 25-6 victory that afternoon. Wyoming would finish the season 5-7 overall while Nevada won its conference after accumulating seven wins, including a 5-1 record in league play.
