Jay Novacek whiskey anyone?
LARAMIE -- Apparently Jay Novacek can do more than catch touchdowns and hoist Super Bowl trophies. The former Wyoming Cowboy tight end this week released his own craft whiskey, Novacek 84 Proof.
The new small-batch whiskey runs for roughly $19.99 -- if you can find it. Numerous sites online say Novacek's new concoction is already sold out. Novacek himself tweeted that the whiskey is launching in Texas first, but he's "working on other places."
The label features a photo of Novacek in his trademark cowboy hat and his signature on the bottom left. Plus, it's 84 proof, the number Novacek wore in Laramie and in the NFL.
Novacek played in Laramie from 1982-84, catching 83 career passes for 1,536 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Gothenberg, Nebraska native was named an All-American in 1984 after setting an NCAA record for yards per reception by a tight end with 22.6 (33 catches for 745 yards).
Novacek was elected to the UW Athletics Hall of Fame in the Class of 1993. Fifteen years later, he was the second Wyoming football player to be enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame, joining Eddie Talboom.
Novacek was drafted in the sixth round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. He played for that organization from 1985-89 before signing with Dallas in free agency. In Big D, Novacek excelled under head coach Jimmy Johnson, earning five trips to the Pro Bowl and three Super Bowl rings.
He was also named an First-Team All-Pro in 1992. In 2018, Novacek was inducted into the Dallas' Ring of Honor.
