It will be the first time the two teams will play since the 2016 Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, Calif. That night, inside a soggy Qualcomm Stadium, Josh Allen and Co. couldn't quite complete the comeback, dropping a 24-21 decision.

The last meeting in Provo between these longtime rivals back in 2010. Dave Christensen's Cowboys fell to the Cougars, 25-20.

BYU has won eight straight in the series and Wyoming hasn't won a road game in the series since 1987.

Paul Roach's Pokes claimed a 29-27 victory in front of nearly 66,000 in what was then known as Cougar Stadium.

Craig Burnett completed 24-46 throws that afternoon in Provo and connected on three touchdown passes. Darrell Perkins, Tom Kilpatrick, Gerald Abraham and Anthony Sargent all scored touchdowns in the victory. A two-point conversion in the third quarter, a pass from receiver Shawn Wiggins to Dewaine Jones, gave the visitors a 22-14 lead.

The Cowboys would go on to win a WAC Championship that season, their first of back-to-back conference crowns.

BYU is scheduled to make a return trip to Laramie on Sept. 28, 2024 as part of a home-and-home series that was agreed upon back in 2018. The Cougars will join the Big XII Conference next season.

The Wyoming-BYU series began in the 1922 season. Through the years, the two teams have played some memorable games, including Wyoming's first night game played on Sept. 1, 1988, when the Cowboys defeated the Cougars 24-14 on way to the 1988 Western Athletic Conference title.

Through the years, Wyoming and BYU have been conference opponents in the Skyline, Western Athletic and Mountain West Conferences. The two old foes have played 78 previous times, which ranks as the third longest series for Wyoming versus any opponent.

The only longer series for the Cowboys are the "Border War" series versus Colorado State, which stands at 109 meetings, and an 83-game series versus Utah.

BYU leads the all-time series, 45-30-3.
