DENTON, Texas -- Jay Sawvel wasn't worried about the temps in Tempe.

Wyoming's rookie head coach said that was a "dry heat" and followed it up with an anecdote about his then Minnesota squad not being fazed in a road game at UNLV. When the Rebels made the return trip to Minneapolis, though, Sawvel said he couldn't help but notice the visitors' misery, melting in the humidity.

Wyoming will see the latter today in muggy Texas.

No, it's not as hot as it could be, but it should still be in the 90's when the Pokes (0-3) and Mean Green (2-1) kick it off tonight inside DATCU Stadium. It all gets underway at 5 p.m. Mountain Time and the game will be televised on ESPN-Plus.

Keep refreshing this page throughout tonight's game for all the latest in-game insights and comments.

PREGAME:

* It's currently 92 degrees here in Denton. It's hot, it's muggy and the Cowboys are on the sunny side of the field.

* Wyoming and College Football Hall of Famer Jay Novacek spoke to the Wyoming players last night at the team hotel. A Source tells me not many of the guys knew who the three-time Super Bowl champion was. Kids ...

* The Pokes are wearing yellow pants. The anti-brown brigade can chill for a week.

* Wyoming announced this morning that senior safety Wyett Ekeler (thumb) and junior edge rusher Braden Siders (protocol), will miss today's game against the Mean Green. Also missing in action: RB Harrison Waylee, RB Dawaiian McNeely, LT Nate Geiger and DE DeVonne Harris. Wrook Brown will also miss the first half. The Texas native was hit with a targeting call against BYU.

* Malique Singleton will start at corner and Cheyenne's Andrew Johnson will fill in for Ekeler.

FIRST QUARTER:

* Svoboda's first throw of the day is a beaut. Hits Boddie for 13 on an out route to pick up the 3rd and 7.

* Sam Scott finally getting some meaningful minutes early on here. Pokes 2-for-2 on third down

* Gyllenborg with a big gainer. Good to see him back out there. If he was fully healthy he would've been gone. That's a 31-yard pitch and catch

* *FIELD GOAL* Really nice opening drive right there from the visitors. That was an 11-play, 62-yard drive capped by a 30-yard field goal off the right foot of John Hoyland. That also took 5:06 off the clock. Wyoming 3 North Texas 0 9:54/ 1Q

* Malique Singleton, who is filling in for Wrook Brown in the first half, just gave up a big gainer. They've gone at him twice already
* Well, that was impressive. Sheffield cruises into the end zone after a 29-yard pitch and catch. This North Texas offense operates at warp speed. Tackling is once again optional for the visitors. That was a 7-play, 75-yard drive that took 2:36. North Texas 7 Wyoming 3 7:18/ 1Q
* Wyoming's defense is getting worKed right now through the air and on the ground. That was a 40-yard jaunt by running back Shane Porter, who was buried on the depth chart early this season.
* Tyce Westland, arguably the Cowboys' top pass rusher, is on the field right now. Appears to be grabbing at his ... man parts. Wyoming can't afford to lose him.
* We are at the end of one quarter in Denton. Wyoming has given up a pair of fourth-down conversions in this one. That's nothing new. Opponents are now 8-for-10 in that category this season. Oddly, the Pokes' D has been one of the best units in the nation on third: 13-of-43.
SECOND QUARTER:
* Wyoming's defenses tightens up here to begin the second. Connor Shay with a big stick on third and goal. Here comes the UNT field goal unit
* That was a 14-play, 80-yard drive for the Mean Green. Nguma with a chip shot 23-yard field goal. I'd call that a win for the Wyoming D. North Texas 10 Wyoming 3 14:12/ 2Q
* Great play by UNT's Terrell Dawkins. Svoboda had Gyllenborg behind the D in the end zone.
* Pokes will turn it over on down here. Don't hate the call. UNT had everyone covered down field. Field goals won't get it done today.
* Conwright hauls in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Morris, who was once again nimble in the pocket. Dude just extends plays left and right. Again, it's killing the Cowpokes. That was an 8-play, 75-yard drive for UNT. They've scored on every drive North Texas 17 Wyoming 3 5:54/ 2Q
* Svoboda just missed a wide open DJ Jones. He hits that, the senior running back is to the house. Brutal miss
* *TOUCHDOWN* Svoboda didn't miss that one. On the same play he just missed, it appears, he hits Sam Scott for a 41-yard touchdown pass. Needed that one. North Texas 17 Wyoming 10 2:15/ 2Q
* Pokes are 4-of-7 on third down in this one. Gyllenborg with a big third-down grab on a nice toss from Svoboda on that 8-play, 75-yard scoring drive.

* If that 19-yard run wasn't bad enough, Tyrecus Davis hits Shane Porter after he was clearly out of bounds. Tack on 15 and the Mean Green is sitting pretty at the Pokes' 27 with 1:54 left in the half
Wyoming jumps offside on a 4th and 4. Harsh the guilty party. That could've been a huge moment in this game. Unbelievable, truly.

 * McGill cruises into the end zone from four yards out. That turn of events really hurts. This team just can't stop sabotaging itself. North Texas 24 Wyoming 10 1:17/2Q
* That 7-play, 76-yard drive by UNT took just 0:53 off the clock. A Tyrecus Davis personal foul and an offside on Sabastian Harsh aided in that debacle.
* *TOUCHDOWN* TK King finally shows off his wheels. Wow. He just slithered through the UNT kick return unit and outraced them to the green paint. That's 100 yards. Huge play by the Texas Tech transfer. North Texas 24 Wyoming 17 1:03/ 2Q
* Can't give up any points right here. North Texas is at the UW 44 with 0:12 to go. North Texas 24 Wyoming 17
* WAY. TOO EASY. UNT gets into field goal range with a simple quick pass and tacks on three more points. Just can't happen. North Texas 27 Wyoming 17 HALFTIME
* North Texas scores on all five of its first-half possessions. That 45-yard field goal as time expired could come back to haunt the Cowpokes. Mean Green offense rolls up 334 yards of total offense in first 30 minutes.
THIRD QUARTER:
* Wrook Brown will return here in the second half after his targeting call last week. Let's see if the Texan can make a difference on the back end
* Really nice defensive series for the Cowboys right there. Andrew Johnson and Connor Shay get credited with pass breakups. Wrook Brown with the nice tackle on third. Here comes the punt team ... finally
* Another really bad snap from Fia. That one rolls back to Svoboda. Can't happen. Loss of 10
* After a six-yard rush from Scott on first down. Wyoming goes backward to the tune of 15 yards on a bad snap and a sack. To make matters worse, Culbreath shanks the punt -- after a bad snap. UNT will start this drive at the Wyoming 35.
* North Texas again knocking at the door after a 26-yard jaunt from Shane Porter. Ouch
* North Texas is now 4-for-4 on fourth down tonight. McGill bullies his way into the end zone, capping a 6-play, 34-yard drive. North Texas 34 Wyoming 17 10:10/3Q
* This one is unraveling quick. UNT with a 15-yard run and now a 34-yard toss. This drive began at the Mean Green 8.
* There are 27,049 in the house tonight in Denton. That's the fifth-largest crowd in DATCU history, per the school
* There's the hat trick for McGill, who finds the end zone from 24 yards out. The rout is on. North Texas 41 Wyoming 17 5:17/ 3Q
* North Texas has scored on all but one offensive drive tonight and has 471 yards of total offense after that 7-play, 92-yard drive
* Three second-half drives for the Cowboys, 3 punts. Minus-5 yards of offense in this quarter. Wyoming has been outscored -- so far -- 52-0 in the third quarter this season

FOURTH QUARTER:

* We spent the fourth quarter on the sidelines so not much Twitter action. Saw Brendan Wenzel in the crowd, sporting a UW shirt. Also listened to the UNT band chant "0-4" and "Go start the bus."

* Turnover on downs for the Pokes. “Mama, don’t let your babies be Cowboys” now blaring in the stadium.

* Kaden Anderson appears to be coming into this one … finally

* North Texas tacks on three more, 44-17. 2:07 to go …

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
