Morgan Ryan Tied for First After First Day of Seattle Invitational

TACOMA, Wash., -- Wyoming redshirt junior Morgan Ryan enjoyed an outstanding first day at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Seattle Invitational on Monday. Ryan ended the first 36 holes tied for first in the tournament with Gabby Kano of Nevada at 141 (-3). Ryan fired rounds of 72 (Even) and 69 (-3) for her 36-hole total of 141 (-3). Kano opened with rounds of 71 (-1) and 70 (-2) for her 141 (-3).
The Cowgirls as a team are tied for 13th in the field of 22 teams. Wyoming will enter Tuesday’s final round with a team score of 599 (+23) and is tied with South Dakota and Houston Christian. Nevada leads the team competition at 580 (+4). The Wolf Pack has a two-stroke lead over second place Santa Clara at 582 (+6).
Ryan and Kano hold a one-stroke lead over Audrey Brust of Santa Clara at 142 (-2) in the individual competition. Three other individuals are tied for fourth at 143 (-1). Those three are Lauren Shew of Santa Clara, Scarlet Weidig of Montana State and Carly Strole of Grand Canyon.
Wyoming’s other four team members competing in the tournament are: Jadan Gonzalez, who is tied for 41st at 150 (+6); Samantha Spielman, who is tied for 62nd at 153 (+9); Kyla Wilde, tied for 77th at 155 (+11); and Tomine Bjerkelo, who is tied for 96th at 159 (+15). The Cowgirls’ Sophie Spiva is playing as an individual and is in 109th place 161 (+17).
“I’m really proud of the way Morgan (Ryan) played today,” said Josey Stender, University of Wyoming Head Women’s Golf Coach. “She kept focused and played through some difficult conditions. It rained some in the morning round and rained throughout the afternoon round. Morgan played extremely consistent in both rounds. I’m excited to see what she can do tomorrow.
“As a team we are bunched together with a number of teams, so we have an opportunity to move up with a good round on Tuesday.”
The Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational is being hosted by Seattle University at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club. The course measures 6,037 yards and plays to a par of 72.
