COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., – Hawai‘i senior quarterback Brayden Schager has been tabbed the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate sophomore linebacker Jamih Otis was named MW Defensive Player of the Week.

Rainbow Warrior sophomore punt returner Tylan Hines earned MW Special Teams Player of the Week honors, while Nevada offensive lineman Tyson Ruffins was selected as the MW Freshman of the Week.

It is the second career MW weekly honor for Schager and first for Otis, Hines and Ruffins.

 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

BRAYDEN SCHAGER, HAWAI‘I

Senior, Quarterback, Highland Park, Texas/Highland Park HS

  • Completed 17-of-34 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 10 times for 38 yards and two more scores to lead Hawai‘i past Delaware State, 35-14.
  • Had TD throws of 11 and 29 yards and scoring runs of 15 and 1 yards.
  • Ran for multiple touchdowns in a game for the first time in his career.
  • Made his 23rd straight start at quarterback, which is the third-longest streak in program history.
  • Became just the fifth Hawai‘i quarterback since 2000 with two passing TDs and two rushing TDs in a game.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

JAMIH OTIS, HAWAI‘I

Sophomore, Linebacker, Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman HS

  • Had a game-high 11 tackles, including eight solo stops, in Hawai‘i’s 35-14 win over Delaware State.
  • Had his first career sack among his 2.5 tackles for loss in the contest.
  • Had one quarterback hurry.
  • Led a defense that allowed just 260 yards of total offense and recorded 11 TFLs and five sacks.
  • Was making his first career start.

 

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

TYLAN HINES, HAWAI‘I

Sophomore, Punt Returner, Mt. Pleasant, Texas/Plano Senior HS

  • Totaled 99 return yards, bringing back three punts for 61 yards and two kickoffs for 38 yards.
  • Scored on a 44-yard punt return last in the first quarter, which was Hawai‘i’s first punt return TD in 12 years.
  • His 61 punt return yards were the most by a Rainbow Warrior in a game since 2014.
  • Helped Hawai‘i win its season opener for the first time since 2020.

 

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

TYSON RUFFINS, NEVADA

Redshirt Freshman, Offensive Lineman, Carson, Calif./Long Beach Poly

  • Started at guard and helped the Nevada line turn in an outstanding performance in a narrow 29-24 setback to new ACC member SMU, which is receiving votes in both the AFCA and Associated Press national polls.
  • Helped pave the way for Nevada to rush for 148 yards, including 77 by quarterback Brendon Lewis.
  • Aided three ball carriers to rush for at least 30 yards in the contest.
  • Helped the Wolf Pack to a time of possession of 36:17, its highest in four seasons.
  • Part of a line that allowed just one sack in the game.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
