There were none of those on Saturday night during the Cowboys 48-7 drubbing at the hands of the Arizona State Sun Devils. A pick-six on the second play from scrimmage didn't help. Neither did the 499 yards of total offense the visitors allowed in this one.

No Wyoming team has ever been beaten this badly on opening day. That dates all the way back to 1893.

"They should be reactionary based on what they saw tonight, because what they saw tonight wasn't very good," Wyoming's rookie head coach Jay Sawvel said when asked if he had a message to an equally stunned fanbase back home. "I own that. As I said, we all have to look in the mirror, and we all have to look at it and go, 'OK, what do we have to do to get better?'

"The biggest thing that I can tell the fanbase is, we're going to go back to work on Monday, and we're going to have a better football team on the field next weekend."
