LARAMIE -- What's on the line in the Mountain West during this final week of the regular season?
Plenty.
UNLV can not only punch its ticket to the conference title game, a home win over San Jose State means that tilt will take place inside Allegiant Stadium. The upstart Rebels will host the winner of the Boise State-Air Force game, which is today inside Albertsons Stadium.
A UNLV loss ... things get muddy.
"If SJSU beats UNLV, there will be a three-way tie between UNLV, SJSU and the winner of the AF/BSU game. The three-team round-robin tiebreaker wouldn’t break either tie. The selected computer rankings will identify the two highest-ranked tied teams to participate in the championship game. Once those two teams are identified, the head-to-head result will determine the host. If the teams did not play each other in the regular season, the highest-ranked team in the computer rankings will host the championship game."
That blurb comes straight from the league.
A Colorado State and Utah State victory will make those two programs bowl eligible. The Mountain West already boasts six of those: Wyoming, Fresno State, Air Force, Boise State, UNLV and San Jose State.
The Cowboys can snap a six-game winless streak away from Laramie with a win in Reno Saturday night. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
