Vander Waal injured midway through third, Williams in
LARAMIE -- Tyler Vander Waal attempted to scramble away from a Colorado State blitz on the Cowboys second offensive drive of the third quarter and was tackled low.
The sophomore quarterback from Elk Grove, Calif., went to the sideline and into the medical tent with the assistance of trainers. Before the drive was completed, Vander Waal was on the back of a cart headed toward the Wyoming locker room.
His injury, at this time, is unknown. So is his return.
Levi Williams, a true freshman from Canyon Lake, Texas, took over for Vander Waal and capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Cowboys a 14-7 lead with 6:04 remaining in the third quarter.
Vander Waal was 6-of-11 passing for 56 yards and a 1-yard rushing touchdown.
Wyoming lists Ryan Marquez, a redshirt freshman from Arvada, Colo., as a quarterback on its roster. Nick Szpor, a senior holder, is also listed as a quarterback.
We will have more information as it becomes available.
