LARAMIE -- University of Wyoming Athletics announced a multi-year extension with Women’s Basketball Head Coach Heather Ezell. The extension runs through the 2028-29 season.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to continue to lead Cowgirl Basketball,” said Ezell.
“It’s an opportunity to take this program to uncharted territory. Our goal, as always, is to win championships and compete at the highest level. I am blessed that Tom Burman and the University of Wyoming continue to believe in me to do that and continue to guide this program.”
In her first two seasons leading the Cowgirls, Ezell has compiled 41 victories and led Wyoming to back-to-back trips to the WNIT. UW has been 24-12 in Mountain West play under Ezell, finishing in second and third place, respectively in the league. The 23 wins by UW in 2022-23, are a program record for the most wins by a first-year head coach.
Ezell has coached a pair of All-Mountain West Team members in Allyson Fertig and Quinn Weidemann. Fertig, who became a two-time honoree this past season, became the first Cowgirl since Liv Roberts in 2016-17 and 2017-18 to be named all-league for consecutive seasons.
Under Ezell, Weidemann and Emily Mellema were both named to the All-Defensive Team while Malene Pedersen was the 2023 MW Freshman of the Year. In the last two seasons, seven student-athletes have been named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.
