Chris Pohl – 6-7, 215-pound – Forward – Marshfield, Wisc. (Marshfield High School)

Pohl is one of the top recruits in the State of Wisconsin being named the fourth best recruit by 247Sports.com. He earned a three-star ranking by the website. He was an All-Conference player averaging 12 points per game and over seven rebounds per night. He shot 48 percent from behind the arc as a junior. He was a First Team All-Conference selection. He also was recruited by Bryant and Wisconsin-Green Bay among others.

Wicks on Pohl: “We love guys who want to be Cowboys, and it was evident that Chris wanted to be a Cowboy as he was our first commitment of the 26-27 class! Chris aligns perfectly with our identity of being skilled and scrappy. We fell in love with Chris’ edge, high feel and his shot making ability as a 6’7 trigger man. CP has an extremely high floor and when the Wyoming faithful watch him play they are going to see a young man who leaves it all on the court every night. He was the New Balance circuit breakout player of the year for a reason; he has been slept on and that is why he continues to play like he has something to prove every night! Cowboy country please tip your cap to the Winner from Wisconsin, Chris Pohl and his family, Bob, Lacie, Noralee and Madilyn.”

Madden Smiley – 6-4, 180-pound – Guard – Windsor, Colo. (Windsor High School)

Smiley is one of the top players in the State of Colorado. As a junior, he was named the 5A Player of the Year and led Windsor to a state championship. He was named the Coloradoan’s Boys Athlete of the Year. As a junior, Smiley averaged 20.9 points per game, 7.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists. He also added 2.1 steals per game. In the state title game, Smiley added 25 points and 11 rebounds along with five assists. He was also named the Northern Conference Player of the Year.

He is the son of Northern Colorado head coach Steve Smiley. He was a former teammate of Wicks during their collegiate careers at Northern State.

Wicks on Smiley: “There is a great quote that aligns perfectly with Madden Smiley, 'Players Play and Tough Players Win.' Madden is a pure-breed winner, both on and off the court. Leading Windsor High School to its first state championship in over a century last year, as well as being an excellent student in the classroom. Madden is a consistent, accountable, and reliable everyday dude. He will instantly plug and play into our Cowboy Culture as he is the epitome of a team first guy. We got an absolute steal in Colorado’s reigning 5A player of the year. I know the passionate poke fans will absolutely love Smiley’s basketball acumen and his ability to play both on and off the ball, as well as his knack for making winning plays. Let’s give a big Wyoming welcome to the Norco Nightmare, Madden Smiley and his family, Steve, Nikki and Avery.”

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
