Gear Up For Game Day: Nevada

LARAMIE -- The Wyoming Cowboys will close the home portion of the 2025 schedule on Saturday afternoon hosting Nevada for a noon kickoff inside War Memorial Stadium.

The contest features many events that include the retirement of NFL MVP Josh Allen’s jersey at halftime along with Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day.

Josh Allen Returns to Laramie

The reigning NFL MVP and Wyoming Athletics Hall of Famer Josh Allen will return to Laramie for Wyoming’s contest against Nevada. Allen will become the first Cowboy to have his jersey retired, as the ceremony will be held at halftime during the contest against the Wolf Pack. Ramos Law will serve as the presenting sponsor of the halftime jersey retirement ceremony.

The most popular and dynamic player ever to play at UW, Josh Allen brought the national spotlight to Wyoming football. Allen quarterbacked the Cowboys to two consecutive eight-win seasons and a berth in the Mountain West Championship game.

Senior Day

The Wyoming Cowboys will honor over 20 seniors prior to the game against Nevada on Saturday. The group includes players that have played UW for five seasons along with a group of transfers. The talented group has helped lead Wyoming to bowl games and earned numerous preseason and postseason honors from the Mountain West and numerous publications.

Notes on the Cowboys:

Century Mark: Wyoming freshman Running back Samuel “Tote” Harris recorded 102 rushing yards against Fresno State. It marked the second 100-yard game for the true freshman this season, as he did so on 12 carries. He recorded a 36-yard rush for a game high. The Pokes have three 100-yard rushing performances this season with Sam Scott recording one in the season opener against Akron. Harris now has 552 yards this season to lead the team. He is averaging over 5.7 yards per carry.

John Mike Ties Career High: Wyoming tight end John Michael Gyllenborg grabbed five catches for 36 yards against Fresno State. It tied a career-high in receptions that he has done numerous times in his career in the Brown and Gold. Gyllenborg has recorded three or more catches in a game 16 times in his career with the Cowboys. He has had three or more catches in four games this season so far.

Eller Nears 300: Linebacker Evan Eller recorded nine tackles for the Cowboys against Fresno State. They were all solo stops, as it tied a career-high for solo stops in a game, as he also recorded nine in the contest against Utah. He has 58 tackles on the season thus far and has 295 tackles in his career and is five away from 300.

Thomas Has Career Day: Wyoming safety Jones Thomas recorded a career-high 12 tackles for the Cowboys against Fresno State. He had seven solo stops in the contest. His previous career-high in tackles came against UNLV when he recorded eight in the game. He has 48 tackles for the season, which is tied for third on the team. He and fellow safety Andrew Johnson have combined for 101 stops on the season.

Bogar Making Plays: Defensive end Esaia Bogar recorded his first career sack for the Pokes against Fresno State. The sack pinned the Fresno State offense inside the 10-yard line as it was a lost of 11 yards. He would later break up a pass and nearly forced an interception for the Cowboys.

Brayden Johnson Has Career Day: Cowboy linebacker Brayden Johnson recorded a career-high 10 tackles for the Cowboys at Fresno State. He had seven solo stops, which was a career high. He went over 200 career tackles in his collegiate career as he now 208 in four seasons. He is the third UW linebacker with 10 tackles this season.

Vets on the Offensive Line: Cowboy fans will say goodbye to a pair of veterans along the offensive line on senior day on Saturday. Center Jack Walsh has had a fine career, as the preseason All-MW selection has played in 44 career games. Guard Caden Barnett has played in 46 career games.

Wilson and Tackles for Loss: Defensive end Brayden Wilson aka Larry added a half tackle for loss at Fresno State. He has recorded 32 in his collegiate career to lead the Cowboys.

J Mike Back in the Game: Tight end John Michael Gyllenborg got back into the groove at San Diego State with three receptions for 26 yards. He has 11 catches for 110 yards this season, after missing time with an injury. For his career, Gyllenborg has 916 career yards with the Pokes. He made his first career catch for the Brown and Gold at Fresno State in 2022.

Florentine Adds Another TFL: Defensive tackle Ben Florentine recorded a tackle for loss on a big fourth down stop for the Cowboys against Fresno State. He leads the team this season with seven tackles for loss for 38 yards, He also leads the team with five sacks on the season. He has 10 tackles for loss in his career, as he will play his final game in War Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Former Cowboy Wins Grey Cup: Former Wyoming Cowboy Corey Mace led his team to a Grey Cup Championship on Sunday. He is the head coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The former Cowboy defensive lineman was an All-Mountain West selection for the Cowboys in 2006.

The Breakups: The Wyoming Cowboys recorded four pass breakups against Fresno State. The Pokes have recorded 36 for the season which is more than last season with two games remaining. Three players have five pass breakups this season to lead the team are cornerbacks Tyrese Boss and Dainsus Miller along with nickel Desman Hearns. The Pokes had season-highs with seven against Akron and UNLV.

About Nevada: Nevada snapped the program’s16-game Mountain West losing streak with a dominant 55-10 victory over San Jose State last Saturday at Mackay Stadium in Reno, Nev.

The Wolf Pack played well in all three phases with quarterback Carter Jones passing for 195 yards and two touchdowns and Caleb Ramseur rushing for 128 yards and a touchdown to lead the offense. Nakian Jackson set the tone defensively by returning an interception for a 66-yard touchdown, and Nevada finished with five forced turnovers that led to 24 points. Ky Woods also returned a kickoff for a 99-yard touchdown.

Nevada is averaging 18.1 points (125th in the FBS) and 301.4 yards (129th) per game while giving up an average of 28.1 points (92nd) and 372.2 yards (72nd).

Wyoming leads the all-time series with Nevada 6-4, including a 42-6 road win in 2023. The Wolf Pack’s last win in the series was a 37-34 overtime victory in an empty Mackay Stadium to open the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. Legendary Cowboy quarterback Josh Allen, who will be in attendance at this year’s meeting to have his No. 17 retired at War Memorial Stadium, ran for two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass during a 42-34 win in 2016 in Reno.
