Pokes Match Best Finish Ever at Mountain West Championships
TUCSON, Ariz., – The University of Wyoming men’s golf team Tuesday matched its best finish ever at the Mountain West Conference Championships. The Cowboys placed fifth as a team at 834 (-30) in a tournament played at Omni Tucson National Resort.

“I’m very, very, very proud of this young group,” head coach Joe Jensen said. “It was the biggest stage they’ve been on in their college careers. And there was a time when we were in the conversation to win this thing. I’m proud of the guys for their steady improvement all year and for their hard work. We have a nice future ahead.”
Brody Leid paced the Pokes, tying for fourth at 204 (-12). That ties the third-best individual conference finish in school history and is tied for the second-best individual finish of the Mountain West Conference era.
“Brody was steady from start to finish,” Jensen said. “He’s a cool customer, and that’s a credit to him. He’s an awesome kid. I’m so happy for him to have success. He looked so good. He looked like he could win the deal. He represented us well.”
Speaking of records, the 30-under par is the lowest team score in a 54-hole event in program history.
“All the kids represented us well,” Jensen said. “Each one of them contributed.”
UNLV captured the team title in a playoff over New Mexico. The Rebels and Lobos both finished at 825 (-39). San Diego State rounded out the top three at 829 (-35).
Leid fired a final-round 69 (-3) to seize his historic finish. He got off to a bumpy start Tuesday and was 1-over through his first seven holes but closed with six birdies in his final 11 holes.
Kellen Ball was once again extremely consistent en route to sharing 15th place. He finished at 209 (-7) and his third round 70 (-2) featured a trio of birdies with just one bogey.
Brody Knowlton took 26th at 212 (-4). He closed with a 72 (E) that consisted of five birdies and an eagle.
Kristof Panke matched Leid for the best Wyoming round of the day. Panke also carded a 69 (-3), which positioned him in a tie for 35th at 215 (-1). His final round was comprised of five birdies and an eagle.
Conner Scheich bounced back from a difficult second round and closed with a 71 (-1) to place 50th at 221 (+5). He was steady on Tuesday with three birdies and two bogeys.
This concludes the regular season for Wyoming. It’ll wait and see if it’s selected for any postseason tournaments.
