LOGAN, Utah – The Wyoming Cowgirls fell on the road Saturday to conference-leading and undefeated in Mountain West play Utah State. Set scores went 25-18, 27-25 and 25-14.

Utah State (17-7, 14-0 MW) controlled the first and third sets in the match. The second set was a battle, with the Cowgirls (13-12, 9-5 MW) out in front by a slim margin for most of the frame. Late in the set, Wyoming faced a set point at 24-23 and were able to rally back to earn its own set point at 25-24. However, the Aggies were able to score three straight points to take the set.

Wyoming hit .163 in the loss while Utah State hit .319 as a team. USU also out-blocked the Cowgirls 12-6 in the match and had a big advantage at the service line. The Aggies had eight aces on the day while Wyoming recorded just one.

Sarah Holcomb led UW both offensively and defensively in the loss. Holcomb recorded a team-best nine kills and hit .421. She also led the way with five total blocks. Emma Winter added eight kills of her own while hitting a strong .333 and tallied three block assists.

Paige Lauterwasser and Skylar Erickson led Wyoming with eight and seven digs, respectively against USU. Lauterwasser also had the Cowgirls’ lone ace. Maddy Stucky had a team-high 14 assists with Sara Quigley notching 13.

Up next for UW is a trip to Las Vegas as it continues its four consecutive matches on the road. The Cowgirls face UNLV at 8 p.m., Mountain Time Thursday, Nov. 13.
