Wyoming-CSU Football Rivalry Preserved … For Now
LARAMIE -- The Border War has been preserved. For now.
Wyoming and Colorado State will meet on the football field for at least the next three seasons, the Mountain West announced Thursday as part of a new scheduling rotation after the conference decided to eliminate divisions beginning with the 2023 season.
As part of the new scheduling, Wyoming will also play Front Range rival Air Force through at least the 2025 season.
The league announced in May that it would be axing divisions to allow its 12 member institutions to play one another more often and also enhance the opportunity of pitting the top-two teams with the best winning percentages in December's Mountain West Championship game. That scenario could provide an easier path to the New Years Six bowls and the College Football Playoff.

The new model, which avoided repeat matchups at the same location from 2022 to 2023, is based on a 2-6 structure where each team will play two guaranteed opponents annually and face six other conference teams. During the three-year cycle, all teams will face nine of 11 opponents at least twice -- once at home and once on the road -- and two opponents in each of the three years.
The rotation was created based on work of a subcommittee of MW athletics directors and was formally approved by the entire group of athletics directors.
