* What position battles should we keep an eye on?

* Who has stood out -- on both sides of the ball and special teams -- over the Cowboys' first 14 practices?

* How good can Tyler Hughes be under center during his final season?

* What will the offense look like under new coordinator Christian Taylor?

* Best defense in the Jay Sawvel era?

* Is the Colorado State game as big as it feels?

Those are just a handful of the questions surrounding this program with a long offseason ahead.

In the immediate, though, expect Wyoming's offense Saturday to run roughly 90 plays with half of those snaps belonging to Hughes. Don't expect to see starters like running back Samuel "Tote" Harris and defensive tackles Dante Drake and Caleb Robinson, among others.

Sawvel is giving his defense a 21-0 head start in this exhibition. Wyoming's head coach has said he doesn't plan to show much on the other side of the ball, scheme-wise, really putting Hughes and Co. behind the eight ball.

Sawvel said last November he was taking a "blow torch" to an offense that averaged under 12 points per game last fall, the second-worst mark in the nation, ahead of only winless UMass.

Here's that unit's first chance to prove things are different.

Kickoff inside War Memorial Stadium is slated for 1 p.m. Gates will open at noon.

We also touch on an eventful offseason for Sundance Wicks and the Wyoming basketball program, Olympic sports in Laramie and the GoFundMe Tucker will need to attend a playoff game -- or two -- in Buffalo to see his beloved Sabres.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.

Just The Facts: Size Doesn't Matter For Wyoming's War Memorial Stadium

Did you know it would take the populations of Gillette (32,857), Laramie (32,381), Rock Springs (23,319), Sheridan (17,844) and Wright (1,200) to create a sellout inside Michigan's famed 107,601-seat Big House, the largest college football stadium in the nation?

For those of you not familiar with the Cowboy State, those are Wyoming's third through sixth most inhabited cities, along with the small mining town in Campbell County.

How Many Medals Have Wyoming-Born Athletes Won at the Olympics?

Wyoming isn't represented on Team USA for the 2020 (in 2021) Olympics in Tokyo. But, athletes born in Wyoming have competed for the gold a handful of times over the last century.

According to the folks at BeenVerified.com, seven Wyoming-born Olympians have competed on the world's largest stage.

Since the 1932 LA games, these competitors earned four Olympic medals; one gold, two silver, and a bronze. Wrestling, Track and Field, and Rowing are the evens where Wyoming-natives have shined.
