Wyoming (12-9, 7-1 MW) faced less drama Sunday than it did in its Saturday contest with Boise State.

The Cowgirls won the doubles with a quick 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot from Noesjka Brink and Nikol Dobrilvoa before Ana Fernandez and Sophie Zehender clinched the point with a win at the first position. Fernandez and Zehender won, 6-3.

In singles play, the Cowgirls won 3-of-4 completed matches on the day. Zehender got UW off on the right path with a quick 6-4 and 6-1 victory at No. 1. Then at No. 3 and No. 4, Violetta Borodina and Brink got wins at those positions, respectively. Both were straight-set victories as Borodina won 6-2, 6-4 and Brink came out on top 6-2 and 6-3.

“The girls competed very hard and once again, our discipline is paying off,” said Dean Clower after the win. “Utah State played good doubles at one and two, so it was important we stayed disciplined and, in our style, which we did. We will get a much-needed day off tomorrow and be ready for the final weekend in Fort Collins.”

“Discipline and being mentally tough was a huge part of this win,” said Zehender. “Our team is making progress and is getting closer every day, which will help us succeed in the coming weeks.”

The Cowgirls close the regular season with a trip to Fort Collins next week for a pair of neutral-site matches. UW will face Air Force Friday and New Mexico Saturday, with both matches beginning at 10 a.m., down at Colorado State.

Wyoming can clinch a share of the regular season conference title with one win and can win the crown outright with two victories.
