LARAMIE -- Who were those guys?

After rolling up just 169 yards of total offense and turning the ball over twice in the first 47-plus minutes Saturday, a different team emerged from the home locker room after a near 40-minute lightning delay in the dark skies hovering over War Memorial Stadium.

Tyler Hughes threw a pair of touchdown passes and connected on eight of his final nine passes. Wyoming scored 14 unanswered points to avoid disaster in a 21-13 victory over Northern Colorado.

"It was pretty s--- game," the graduate transfer said. "I mean, just we'll call it what it is. But the entire locker room never stopped believing, and we'll take those last 12 minutes and we'll build off that."

Hughes completed 18-of-26 passes for 149 yards and added 35 more on the ground. He found Charlie Coenen in the end zone for a 15-yard strike with 3:44 left on the game clock. Tight end Kyle Frendt stretched out to haul in an 18-yard touchdown catch on the following drive.

The Cowboys are now 9-2 against FCS opponents in the last 11 outings.

"I think we learn a lot through that scenario about the urgency that we have to play with all the time," head coach Jay Sawvel said. "There's a lot of growth that still has to happen with this football team."

A near-capacity crowd serenaded the home team with a chorus of boos as they made their way to the home locker room. The mood on social media throughout this sluggish performance wasn't any better.
