Ashworth finishes fourth at UWW Senior Nationals
CORALVILLE, Iowa -- Over the weekend Cowboy Wrestling was in action at the UWW Junior and Senior Nationals. The weekend was highlighted by three-time NCAA Qualifier for the Pokes and Volunteer Assistant Coach Branson Ashworth taking fourth place in the Senior Freestyle 74kg bracket.
After dropping a close match in the Round of 16, Ashworth faced a tough road to make it to the placing rounds but he proved to be up to the challenge.
Ashworth rattled off five straight victories, highlighted by a win over No. 4 seeded Jeremiah Moody, to earn his spot in the third-place bout. With his fourth-place finish at the UWW Senior Nationals Ashworth earned a spot in 2021 U.S Senior World Team Trials.
In the UWW Junior Freestyle nationals, Wyoming was represented well with eight Cowboys competing in the event. The Trio of Jake Svihel, Ridge Briggs and Cooper Voorhees all went 2-2 at their respective weights with Briggs and Voorhees winning at least one match by technical superiority.
