BREAKING: Sean Chambers named starting quarterback
LARAMIE -- Sean Chambers will start under center Saturday when the Cowboys travel to Reno to open up the 2020 season against the Nevada Wolf Pack, the school announced Monday.
How's that for a birthday present?
Chambers, who is 9-2 as a starter, will make his second straight opening day start for Wyoming. The redshirt sophomore started the first eight games of the 2019 season before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
Craig Bohl has made no secret about his plans at quarterback, aside from who will take the first snap inside Mackay Stadium. Wyoming's head coach has said from day one of fall camp that both Chambers and redshirt freshman Levi Williams will play.
"Right now, Sean has a little bit of an edge off of his body of work, but we’re well pleased with Levi," Bohl said during a press conference last Wednesday. "I want to make real clear that (Offensive coordinator Brent) Vigen and myself feel very comfortable playing either one of them and both of them will be playing in the games."
Last fall, Chambers connected on 52-of-121 passes for 915 yards and seven touchdowns. He added 567 yards on the ground to go along with 10 rushing touchdowns.
Williams earned his first career start in the Arizona Bowl, tossing three touchdown passes and running for another in a 38-17 victory over Georgia State. The Texas native also saw action against Colorado State and Air Force.
Kickoff in Reno is scheduled for 5 p.m. MST.
