Seal Beach, California – Wyoming Cowgirl Golf was back in action on Monday completing the first two rounds of play at The Gold Rush in Seal Beach, California. After the first day of action in Seal Beach the Cowgirls sit in 11th place as a team.

“The course played very firm and continued to dry out throughout the day. It made it very difficult to judge approach shots and green speeds. Despite that I was pleased very pleased with the team’s perseverance and commitment to each shot in the second round to improve. Especially Jess and Meghan they were great at rebounding form round one,” UW head women’s golf coach Josey Stender said. “Tomorrow we just need to continue to learn from the course conditions and play confidently.”

Jessica Zapf led Wyoming on day one, posting the lowest round score of any Cowgirl on the day shooting a second round of 75 (+3) which has her sitting in a tie for 34th with a total score of 157 (+13). Freshman Meghan Vogt also had a solid day, posting a second-round score of 77 (+5) as she sits in 39th after day one with a total score of 158 (+14).

Morgan Ryan recorded a two-round score of 167 (+23) to put herself in a tie for 59th. Rounding out the starting lineup for the Cowgirls are Samantha Hui and Cristina Ciasca who are both tied for 63rd after the first day of competition.

Competing as an individual, freshman Kyla Wilde displayed consistency shooting a 79 (+7) and an 80 (+8) in the opening rounds to finish the day tied for 41st. Michelle Nguyen and Rachel Stoinski are also playing as individuals finishing the day tied for 66th and 71st respectively.

As a team, the Cowgirls currently sit in 11th with a score of 647 (+71) holding a four-stroke lead over CSU- Northridge while sitting just two strokes behind 11th place Northern Illinois. No. 14 ranked USC leads the field after day one with a score of 577 (+1)

Play will conclude tomorrow with the final round set to begin at 8:00 am MT from the Old Ranch Country Club.

Code Of The West: Wyoming State Code of Ethics

"The Code of the West" was declared the official state code of Wyoming, and the act was signed into law on March 3rd, 2010. Wyoming is the first state to adopt a code of ethics. The legislation chose ten ethics derived from the book "Cowboy Ethics" by James P. Owen
