University Place, Wash., – Kyla Wilde noted before the first tee shot of the season that after playing 54 holes in two days at Chambers Bay GC against an exceptional field the rest of the fall schedule would feel easy by comparison and the competition would make the 2024-25 Cowgirls golf team better.

Wyoming capped the Leadership & Golf Invitational with a 16th-place finish after carding a three-round score of 930 (+66) with a 312 (+24) during Tuesday's final round on the rigorous course where Jordan Spieth won the 2015 men's U.S. Open.

USC (859) won the Leadership & Golf Invitational at -5, the only team in the 16-team field under par. Runner-up Grandy Canyon (868) was nine shots back and the only team to shoot under par (-3) in the final round.

"The course set up was much more difficult today," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "We were managing it very well, but a few compounded mistakes cost us. While we were short of our scoring goals, I am encouraged overall by the potential for the season.

"If we clean up unforced errors and improve our putting, I think we have a lot to build on from this competitive event."

San Francisco's Riana Mission and USC's Catherine Park tied for the individual title at -8 (208).

The Cowgirls were led by senior Meghan Vogt, who finished the tournament in 61st place on the individual leaderboard at +14 (75-77-78). Wilde (76-78-77), also a senior, moved up three spots from Monday to finish 63rd at +15 for the event.

Cowgirl freshman Lucia Morelli, who is from nearby Mercer Island, Wash., moved up four spots Tuesday with a 77 to finish +17 (235).

"Meg was very solid in her return and she knows she belongs on this competitive stage," Stender said. "Kyla was consistent as always and Lucia had a very positive debut as a Cowgirl."

Sophomore Samantha Spielman 236) of Sheridan was 75th and junior Sophie Spiva (240) of Casper was 82nd to round out UW's scoring.

The Cowgirls return to action at the Colonel Wollenberg Ram Classic hosted by Colorado State next Monday in Windsor, Colo.
