Rancho Mirage, Cali. – The Wyoming Cowgirl Golf got the Mountain West Championships underway on Monday completing the first 18 holes of play at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California.

The day was highlighted by two Cowgirls finishing the first round in the top 25.

The Duo of Kyla Wilde and Samantha Hui led the way in the first round of play as each of them shot a 76 (+4) to finish the day tied for 25th. Wilde and Hui accounted for four of the six birdies scored by a Cowgirl on the day.

Meghan Vogt and Morgan Ryan also matched each other’s scores both shooting an 81 (+9) to close out the first round tied for 40th. Jessica Zapf rounds out the Cowgirl lineup currently tied for 44th after shooting a first round of 82 (+10).

After the first round, the Cowgirls sit in ninth in the team standings with a score of 314 (+26) sitting just seven strokes behind eighth place Colorado State. No. 5 ranked San Jose State has a controlling lead over the field after the first day with a score of 279 (-9) while Fresno State sits in second with a score of 291 (+3)

The Cowgirls will be back in action tomorrow for the second round of the Mountain West Championships which is set to tee off at 8:00 a.m. MT. The third and final round of play will take place on Wednesday and is also set to tee off at 8:00 a.m. MT.
