BROKEN ARROW, Okla., -- The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team returned to the hometown of head coach Dean Clower (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and put on a show, defeating Northeastern State 6-1.
The win is the first of the spring for the Cowgirls (2-4) and the fifth of 2022 in the state of Oklahoma. UW swept doubles play to earn the doubles’ point and then proceeded to take 5-of-6 in the singles’ portion to cruise to victory.

The duo of Noesjka Brink and Mihaela Kaftanova got things started on the day with a win at No. 2 doubles, 6-0. It was the tandem’s fourth victory of the spring together. At the No. 3 spot, Ana Fernandez and Lucia Malinak clinched the point with a 6-4 win before Ida Krause and Maria Oreshkina rounded things out with a 6-1 win at the first doubles position.
In singles play, Krause opened with a quick 6-2, 6-0 victory to open play at the No. 4 spot. At Nos. 1 and 2, Oreshkina and Brink won, respectively. Both won in straight sets as Oreshkina prevailed 6-1 and 6-4 while Brink was victorious 6-0, 6-3 as the Cowgirls clinched the match with those two wins.
Wyoming ended the day with wins at both the fifth and sixth singles spots. Malinak blanked her opponent 6-0 and 6-0 while Alyse Cormier finished the day with a 6-0 and 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot.
The Cowgirls are now off for a couple of weeks and will finally play a match outside of the Sooner State. Wyoming will next travel to McComb, Miss., for a pair of neutral-site matches against Southeastern Louisiana February 5 before facing West Alabama Feb. 6.
