McCOMB, Miss., – It was a battle Wednesday night in Mississippi, but the Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team came up just short in their first of two matches in the state, dropping a 4-3 decision to South Alabama.

“Congrats to South Alabama, they were very structured and played a great match,” said Cowgirl Head Coach Dean Clower.

“I’m proud of the effort the team put forth today. We had rain all week and have only had one practice outdoors this year and I felt like the girls made adjustments on the fly, which is tough to do. The team got after it and did what I asked, so I will take the loss for this one. We have quick turnaround and need to be ready for Southeastern Louisiana Thursday.”

Wyoming (8-6) got back to its winning ways in doubles Wednesday, picking up that point after dropping the doubles point in both matches two weeks ago. The Cowgirls got a pair of hard-earned wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions. At No. 1, the team of Violetta Borodina and Sophie Zehender won 7-6 while at No. 2, Noesjka Brink and Nikol Dobrilova came out on top, 7-5.

In singles, the Cowgirls got a pair of victories, winning at the No. 2 and 3 positions. At No. 2, Brink won 7-5 and 7-5. Borodina also nabbed a straight-sets win at three, winning convincingly, 6-1 and 6-2.

The Cowgirls finish play down in Mississippi with a 5:30 p.m., Mountain Time matchup with SE Louisiana Thursday.
