Cowgirls Drop Road Contest to Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif., – The Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team lost a three-set match on the road Saturday at Fresno State. The Bulldogs prevailed 25-23, 25-15 and 25-19.
The Bulldogs (12-9, 6-4 MW) controlled much of the match, especially in the second and third sets after winning a back-and-forth, tightly-contested opening set. Fresno State hit .356 for the match while holding the Cowgirls (15-6, 4-6 MW) to just a .198 hitting percentage. Fresno also had a 4-3 edge in team blocks and recorded seven service aces to Wyoming’s five.

Corin Carruth and Rylee Schulz led the Cowgirl offense with 10 kills each in the loss. The duo also hit well on the day as Schulz posted a .360 attacking percentage with Carruth hitting .318. Tierney Barlow added seven kills. Sarah Holcomb’s two solo blocks led the UW defense at the net.
Kasia Partyka led the Cowgirls with 29 assists on the day while Sierra Grizzle notched a match-high 15 digs in the loss.
Wyoming looks to get back in the winner’s column next week with a pair of home contests. The Cowgirls welcome Boise State Thursday and Utah State Saturday.
