
Edel Earns Title of Master Strength and Conditioning Coach
LARAMIE -- University of Wyoming sports performance coach for Cowboy basketball and Cowgirl volleyball Jimmy Edel was presented with the title of Master Strength and Conditioning Coach Wednesday by Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa).

He received the honor at the association's national conference in Fort Worth, Texas. He joins fellow UW staff member Mike Cotterman (2014), as one of 380 individuals who have received the level of certification.
To receive this level of certification and corresponding title of distinction, an individual must first meet the following criteria:
* Be a currently practicing, full-time strength & conditioning coach of a collegiate or professional athletic team.
* Hold the CSCCa's Certification – SCCC (Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified), which is NCCA accredited.
* Be a full-time, strength and conditioning coach of a collegiate, and/or professional athletic team for a minimum of 12 years.

Edel is in his seventh entering his season with Wyoming. He helped lead the Pokes to the NIT last season for the first appearance since 2003.
The Cowboys reached the NCAA Tournament in 2022 under Edel's training, finishing the season with a 25-9 overall record. The Pokes received their first at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament since 2002 and marked the first trip to the Big Dance since 2015. The Pokes recorded 24 wins in the regular season for the most since the 1951-52 campaign.
Edel got his start in strength and conditioning as an intern at Winona State University. He then spent three seasons as head strength coach for men's and women's basketball at Appalachian State prior to four seasons at Northern Colorado. He earned Master's degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning while at Appalachian State.
