LARAMIE -- Uriyah Rojas is staying put.

The 6-foot-3 junior from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., announced Thursday he will be returning to the Wyoming basketball program to close out his college career.

Rojas, who averaged 6.2 points and nearly two assists from the point-guard position last season in more than 16 minutes a night on the floor, connected on 39.1% of his shots, including 31.3 from beyond the arc. He also hauled in 1.9 rebounds an outing.

Appearing in all 33 games, Rojas reached double figures in scoring six times, including a 23-point outing in a 79-65 home win over Austin Peay. He splashed 6-of-7 shots from deep and was 8-of-14 from the field.

"From an offensive standpoint, Uriyah was outstanding," Wicks said postgame. "He only had one blow by in the second half where he didn't get to weak ball-screen coverage, that he got that foul pinned on him. But he made up for it with threes. We recruited him because he made 75 threes at Chaffey College. We knew we could score.

"We needed a guy who would be a weapon. We need a guy with some gravity, and I'm not afraid to play Uriyah Rojas off the ball now."

If you ask Wicks, Rojas' best performance came on the road at Grand Canyon where he finished with nine points, four rebounds and two helpers. His favorite stat after that 70-65 upset was zero.

That's the number of turnovers he committed in a pressure-packed atmosphere.

"He has had back-to-back games where he played within himself," Wicks said, also referring to an 11-point, three assist, no-turnover outing against Fresno State. "He was massive for the Pokes again tonight."

Wyoming's leading scorer Leland Walker has vacated the point, exhausting his eligibility. Will that be Rojas' spot for the taking in 2026-27? That remains to be seen.

Only guards Damarion Dennis and Adam Harakow, as of now, have publicly announced they will be entering the NCAA Transfer Portal when the two-week window opens on Tuesday.

Wicks said his top priority this offseason was retention. He has also begun adding to the roster. On Monday, 6-foot-6 forward Michael Mora announced on social media he will be inking with the Cowboys after spending last season at Division-II Cal State Monterey where he averaged 17.2 points per outing.

Wyoming will also welcome incoming freshmen Madden Smiley (Windsor, Colo.) and Chris Pohl (Marshfield, Wisc.) into the fold this summer.
