Cowgirls Open Three-Match Homestand This Weekend

LARAMIE -- The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis opens a three-match homestand this weekend with a pair of matches at the Laramie Tennis Complex.
The Cowgirls host Fresno State at 3 p.m., Friday and San Jose State at 10 a.m., Sunday.
Wyoming (12-8, 3-2 MW) is coming off a weekend split on the road last week, dropping a 4-0 contest at San Diego State before battling across two days for a 4-3 victory at UNLV.
The UNLV match started Saturday and was suspended until Sunday due to rain in Las Vegas. Noesjka Brink clinched the match against the Lady Rebels last week, winning at the No. 2 singles spot, 6-7 (1-7), 6-2 and 6-4.
Sophie Zehender at No. 1 also rallied for a three-set victory, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4. Jeselle Ante picked up a straight-sets victory over UNLV, 7-6, 6-2 at No. 4.
Both Brink and Zehender lead UW with 13 dual wins each in singles action in 2024. Zehender also leads the team with a 4-1 mark in Mountain West action while Brink is 3-1. With her win at UNLV, Ante also moved above .500 in singles contests in league play. In doubles action, the Cowgirls are 9-2 overall during MW play and have won the doubles point four of the five matches thus far.
The Cowgirls look to continue their strong play at home this season. Wyoming is 6-1 in Laramie in 2024 and is 2-0 in Mountain West matches.
Fresno State is 8-9 overall this season and is 2-1 in league play. The Bulldogs had a pair of league matches canceled this season due to weather. Fresno is 2-6 on the road in 2024. SJSU, meanwhile, is 11-4 overall and 2-2 in conference and had its match at San Diego State canceled last week due to rain. The Spartans are 4-2 on the road in 2024.
