Cowgirls show improvement in Saturday play at ITAs
LAS VEGAS -- The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team continued “extra match” play at the ITA Mountain Regional, hosted by UNLV. The Cowgirls showed improvement Saturday at the event, picking up multiple victories.
In extra doubles play, the duo of Ida Krause and Maria Oreshkina, as well as the team of Noesjka Brink and Mihaela Kaftanova, picked up wins. Krause and Oreshkina defeated BYU’s Astle and Lin, 6-3, while Brink and Kaftanova earned a 6-4 win over Montana State’s Cuquerella and Reboredo.
On the singles’ side of things, UW notched a trio of victories. Alyse Cormier won a thriller over BYU’s Pope, 6-2, 2-6 and 1-0 (11-9) to grab her first victory at the event in the Second Flight.
In the First Flight, Krause and Sophie Zehender both got wins. Krause took an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win over Dixie State’s Longson. Zehender, meanwhile, earned a 4-6, 6-2 and 1-0 (10-8) victory against Balzert of Colorado.
