LAS VEGAS -- The Wyoming tennis team continued its solid play at the ITA Mountain Region Championships as a pair of Cowgirls moved on to the Quarterfinals with a pair of victories on Thursday.

Maria Oreshkina and Sophie Zehender both went 2-0 at the event, hosted by UNLV. In the Round of 64, Oreshkina opened with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Denver’s Camille Verden-Anderson. Oreshkina then followed that up with another straight-sets win, this time over Air Force’s Hailey Stelse, 6-3 and 7-6.

Zehender opened her day with a 7-5 and 6-3 win over Lindsay Hung of Utah, then in the Round of 32, got a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over UNLV’s Izumi Asano to advance into Friday’s next round.

In doubles action, Ana Fernandez and Zehender continued to play well, as they won their Round of 32 match over Utah’s Samantha Horwood and Lindsay Hung, 8-4 and now will move onto the Round of 16 Friday.

Friday’s action, which is day three of the five-day event, features Round of 16 and quarterfinal play in doubles. In singles, the student-athletes will compete in the Round of 16.
