PROVO, Utah -- Wyoming Cowgirl golf played their first two rounds of the new season on Monday at the UVU Hobble Creek Classic. They started the season strong, shooting a two-round team score of 608 (+39) to sit in a tie for fourth out of the 18 teams competing.

The tournament will conclude Tuesday with the third and final round at the Hobble Creek Golf Course.

“Today was a marathon for us and I am very proud of how the team responded for our last 27 holes today,” UW head women’s golf coach Josey Stender said. “The course is very demanding off the tee with little room for error. I thought we managed to make the necessary adjustments and played mentally tough.”

Sophomore Kyla Wilde led the Cowgirls on the finishing tied for 12th after the first two rounds of play. Wilde had an excellent second round, shooting 71 (E) on her way to totaling a two-round score of 149 (+7). Making her Cowgirl debut, Jadan Gonzalez put together a solid first day of play, wrapping up her afternoon tied for 20th with a total score of 151 (+9).

Samantha Hui also sits in the top 25 after the first two rounds play, posting a score of 152 (+10) putting her in a tie for 22nd. Rounding out the lineup for the Cowgirls are Morgan Ryan and Sophie Spiva, who are currently tied for 40th and 70th, respectively.

The Cowgirls posted a team score of 607 (+39) to finish the day in a tie for fourth with CSU-Fullerton while sitting one stroke ahead of sixth place Idaho and just three strokes behind third place Weber State. Boise State currently leads the team race with a score of 592 (+9).

The duo of Rachel Stoinski and Grace Dunkleberger were also in action on Monday competing in the tournament as individuals. Stoinski posted a two-round score of 158 (+16) to finish the day tied for 63rd while Dunkleberger capped of the day tied for 85th with a score of 163 (+21)

The Cowgirls will wrap up plat at the Hobble Creek Classic tomorrow morning with the final round set to tee off at 7:45 a.m.
