Former Wyoming speedster Rico Gafford moving back to cornerback

LARAMIE -- Rico Gafford has a new position.

Listed as a wide receiver when he was acquired by Green Bay last January, the former University of Wyoming speedster has been moved back to his natural position at cornerback, according to PackersWire.com.

During his two seasons in Laramie, the 5-foot-10, 184-pound Des Moines, Iowa product picked off six passes, including four during the 2017 campaign. One of those was a 37-yard pick-six in during a 45-10 rout of visiting Texas State.

Gafford also tallied 103 tackles and forced three fumbles for the Cowboys.

With all NFL eyes on Josh Allen during Wyoming's annual pro day, Gafford turned heads when he registered a blazing 40-yard dash time that was reportedly in the 4.2 range. It wasn't enough to get him drafted, but Gafford was signed by Tennessee as a free agent.

In 2018, Gafford became a member of the Oakland Raiders. There, he also became an NFL wide receiver.

His first career catch -- which coincidentally came against the Titans -- was a 49-yard touchdown off the right arm of Derek Carr. He snagged one more ball for 17 yards against Denver.

Those are still the only two receptions of Gafford's career.

Last fall was a wild one for the former Cowboy, who spent time on the practice squads in Arizona, Buffalo and Denver.

Gafford is one of 12 former Wyoming players who is currently on an active NFL roster. Garrett Crall (Miami), Keegan Cryder (Tampa Bay), Trey Smith (Jacksonville) and Logan Harris (Detroit) are attending rookie minicamps.
