University of Wyoming golfer Jimmy Dales is one of a select group of collegiate golfers who will play in the 2022 edition of the Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase Pro-Am on Monday, Feb. 14 at the famed Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

This year’s event will feature a diverse field of collegiate programs, and its largest to date with 17 competitors. Dales, a redshirt sophomore from Northville, Mich., is coming off a strong 2021 fall season that saw him post five Top 25 tournament finishes in six appearances.

Dales led the Cowboys in stroke average in the fall of 2021, averaging 72.28 strokes per round.

Wyoming is making its fourth appearance in the Collegiate Showcase. The event was created in 2015 in connection with the TGR Foundation, a Tiger Woods Charity.

The collegiate golfers will be paired with two amateurs representing their schools along with a PGA Tour professional in the best-ball, pro-am portion of the Collegiate Showcase. The University of Wyoming team won the best-ball team event in 2021, earning $50,000 for the school’s golf program.

Each collegiate golfer will play their own ball throughout the Pro-Am. The winning individual collegiate golfer will earn exemption into the 2022 Genesis Invitational that begins on Feb. 17, 2022, and will also be played at Riviera Country Club.

“This is our fourth year playing in the Collegiate Showcase and it has been a great experience every year we’ve gone,” said Joe Jensen, University of Wyoming Director of Golf. “Last year, we were fortunate enough to win the team competition and that came with a lot of excitement and enjoyment and we’re very proud of that -- not to mention winning the $50,000 for our program.

“This tournament is of course also a very special opportunity for Jimmy (Dales) and the other college players competing in the tournament to earn a spot in the Genesis Invitational. On top off all that having the opportunity to play on Riviera Country Club is a very special opportunity in itself.”

In addition to the $50,000 that is awarded to the university golf program of the winning team, youth throughout Southern California benefit annually through access to the game of golf during the Genesis Invitational, and thousands of local students benefit from participating in STEM education and college-access programs of the TGR Foundation.

Among the collegiate golf programs that have participated in the previous seven Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcases are: Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Pepperdine, San Jose State, Texas, Texas A & M, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Wake Forest, Washington and Wyoming.

Some of the PGA TOUR Professionals who have played in the Collegiate Showcase Pro-Am include: Paul Casey, Luke Donald, Jim Furyk, Bill Haas, Charley Hoffman, J.B. Holmes, Jordan Spieth, Harold Varner III and Jhonattan Vegas.
