Jordan Bertagnole Named to Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List

LARAMIE -- The Football Writers Association of America announced the preseason watch list for the 2024 Outland Trophy on Tuesday. Cowboy defensive tackle Jordan Bertagnole was named to the list for the second-consecutive season, as he is one of 75 players named to garner the honor.

Bertagnole was named to the preseason All-Mountain West team and was named to the Shrine Bowl Preseason Watchlist.

"I always say, the preseason stuff is cool to get accolades, but everything that matters comes in the postseason," the sixth-year senior said in early July at Mountain West Media Days in Las Vegas.

Bertagnole started all 13 games en route to being named second-team All-Mountain West Conference. He was also named first team All-MW by Phil Steele. He ranked fifth on the squad with 60 tackles. Bertagnole added a team-best 5.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. He also forced one fumble, had six quarterback hurries and two pass break-ups.

He recorded multiple tackles in each game save for one. Bertagnole enjoyed a season-high nine tackles at UNLV, while adding eight and seven tackles against Appalachian State and Portland State, respectively.

He registered back-to-back contests with a pair of tackles for loss against Hawaii and at Nevada.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert Gagliardi, Jared Newland, Ryan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
