"Exciting times are ahead for the USD Toreros as we welcome coach Nick Fulton as our new offensive coordinator," Moore said. "His innovative mindset and proven track record will undoubtedly propel our program to new heights. I can't wait to reunite with him on the field and build upon the success we've achieved together in the past.

"Together, we will elevate the Toreros to greatness."

Fulton, who has more than 20 years of college football coaching and administrative experience, joins USD from the University of Wyoming, where he had served as the Cowboys' Associate Athletics Director for Football Operations since January 2022.

"I’m really excited for the opportunity to be the offensive coordinator at the University of San Diego and to be back coaching, but it’s bittersweet for my family and I because Laramie is such a special place to us," Fulton told 7220sports.com on Wednesday. "I am very appreciative to coach (Craig) Bohl for bringing me back and for the past year with coach (Jay) Sawvel, as well.

"I’ve seen firsthand how much coach Sawvel and the rest of the staff have poured into the program and am excited for their success this coming fall."

He was responsible for a variety of administrative duties at UW, including planning team travel, monitoring the football budget, serving as a liaison with the athletics academic counseling staff, and helping oversee and coordinate roster management and player personnel activities.

He also assisted with the launch of the Cowboys' Name, Image, and Likeness program before serving as the football program's liaison to Wyoming's NIL collective.

"I am thrilled to be reunited with Coach Moore, and I appreciate him giving me the opportunity to be back at it as the offensive coordinator," Fulton said. "Coach Moore understands success and how to win at an extremely high level while building meaningful relationships with our players. I look forward to being a part of, and working to elevate the proud and successful tradition of USD Football. Being back on the field and working with such a great group of young men has reminded me why I started coaching years ago and has reinvigorated the passion I have for coaching young people."

In his first season in that role with Cowboy football, Fulton was part of a coaching staff that helped the fourth-youngest team in the country earn a 7-6 record, a second-place finish in the Mountain West Conference Mountain Division, and a spot in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl.

Along the way, 2022 Cowboys defeated rivals Air Force, Colorado State, Hawai'i, Utah State, and American Athletic Conference member Tulsa. Wyoming's 7-6 record in 2022 gave the program its fifth winning season in the past seven years.

Prior to his time in Laramie, Fulton served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Colorado Mesa University for the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Prior to that, he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Northern Colorado for the 2019 season.

Fulton enjoyed a successful four-year run at Colorado School of Mines alongside Brandon Moore from 2015-18. With Fulton as the teams' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, the Orediggers advanced to the NCAA Division II Playoffs in 2016 and 2018 and captured the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championship both seasons. During that four-year span in Golden, Colorado, Mines posted records of 8-3 (2015), 10-3 (2016), 7-4 (2017) and 10-2 (2018).

In 2016, Mines posted a 10-3 record, were champions of the RMAC and advanced to the Second Round of the Division II Playoffs. Fulton coached 2016 Harlon Hill Award (presented to NCAA Division II football's top player each year)-winning quarterback Justin Dvorak.

Fulton's offensive unit ranked number one in the nation in total offense, averaging 566.8 yards per game, ranked number one the country in first downs (373), ranked number two in passing offense (359.8 yards per game) and ranked number three in scoring offense (47.5 points per game).

The 2018 Orediggers recorded a 10-2 record, won the RMAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II Playoffs for the second time in three seasons. Mines' offense again led the nation in total offense, averaging 556.8 yards per game, ranked number two in first downs (307) and passing offense (331.9 yards per game) and ranked number four in the country in scoring offense (47.2 points per game).

Fulton also coached Harlon Hill Award candidate Cameron Mayberry at running back in 2017. Mayberry averaged 156.6 rushing yards per game that season to rank number three in the nation in rushing, and he averaged 200 all-purpose yards per game to rank number three in the nation in that category.

Prior to coaching at Colorado School of Mines, Fulton spent three seasons (2012-2014) as the offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and football academic coordinator at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota.

While at Black Hills State, Fulton's offense set a school record for total offense in the 2014 season, averaging 433.3 yards per game, and quarterback Ward Anderson ranked number six in the country in total offense (337.5 yards per game). Fulton coached the Yellow Jackets offensive linemen in 2012 and 2013 and coached the quarterbacks in 2014.

Fulton was a graduate assistant coach at Wyoming for the 2010 and 2011 seasons, worked as an assistant coach at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska from 2006 to 2009, and began his college coaching career at his alma mater, the University of Sioux Falls, in 2005.

A native of Laramie, Wyoming, Fulton played his college football at Sioux Falls following his graduation from Laramie High School.

He was a standout offensive lineman during his college career (1999-2003), earning All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-America honors as a senior in addition to playing on three consecutive conference championship teams. The 2001 Sioux Falls squad competed in the NAIA National Championship Game in 2001, finishing the season as the national runner-up.

Fulton and his wife, Becki, were married in December of 2014. They have two daughters, Gwenna and Mara.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
