LARAMIE -- University of Wyoming men’s golf head coach Joe Jensen read a quote somewhere this summer that stuck with him. It made such an impression because it perfectly encapsulates what the Cowboys have ahead of the 2024-25 season.

“I’m returning a lot of production and experience,” Jensen said.
Four of Wyoming’s five starters are back. Featured on that list is the trio of Patrick Azevedo, Jaren Calkins and Kristof Panke.
Those three have combined to be a part of many high points over the last few years. They’ve captured three team titles – the 2022 Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, the 2022 Wyoming Desert Match Play and the 2023 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate – and their combined scoring average last season was 72.63.
With Jimmy Dales, one of the more accomplished Cowboys in school history, exhausting his collegiate eligibility last year, Jensen is going to lean on Azevedo, Calkins and Panke to lead the squad in 2024-25.
“It's going to be a leadership by committee by those three,” Jensen said. “I’ve really enjoyed working with those guys and the conversations I’ve had with them. When those three are on the same page, we are in a good spot.”
Davis Seybert is also back after competing in all 14 events last season. The rest of the roster is a combination of guys that have played collegiate golf – both at Wyoming and in the junior college ranks – and a true freshman.
Jensen has observed and heard from his veterans that the young ones and new ones have a bunch talent. That gives the head man options and internal competition that’ll breed improvement throughout the season.
“Do I think we ought to be competitive? Yeah. Do I feel good? You bet,” Jensen said. “That being said, we as coaches can put too much pressure on a group. So, I’m going to step back because they’ve all done the right things in the offseason and leading up to this year. I trust this group.”
The 2024-25 slate includes 14 events. The season begins Tuesday and Wednesday at the Palouse Collegiate hosted by Washington State. There are four more fall events before a busy spring of eight tournaments, two of which are hosted by Wyoming.
