SACRAMENTO, Calif., — Katelyn Mitchem is headed to Austin, Texas for the 2023 NCAA Track & Field Outdoor National Championships due to a strong showing in the 3000M Steeplechase on Saturday evening.

Mitchem, the Wyoming school record holder in the event, ran a 9:53.81 in the first of three heats at the NCAA West First Rounds in California. Mitchem finished fifth in her heat and had to wait out the final two heats to see if she would get in. Get in she did as the senior from Broomfield, Colo., will head to the NCAA Championships.

Mitchem started the 2022-23 athletic season with a trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championships and will end it in Austin with the best of the best once again.

Mitchem ran the 5K later on in the evening. In one of the last events of the First Rounds, Mitchem posted a 16:34.39 to take 41st.

Kareem Mersal and Mitchem will represent the Brown & Gold in Austin as the Championships are slated for June 7th - 10th.
