VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., – Senior thrower Daniel Reynolds won Wyoming’s first national title since 2005 on Friday with a facility and meet-record throw of 82’ 3 1/2" (25.08 meters) in the weight throw to seal an undefeated season at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship.

Reynolds’ championship meet started with a bang that would have won the title off the bat. His throw of 80’ 9” (24.61 meters) was just over an inch shy of the previous meet record and was nearly five inches more than the rest of the field.

After faulting on his second toss, he followed up with a throw of 78’ 3 1/2” (23.86 meters) while the field started to catch up with two others eclipsing the 24-meter mark.

While he entered the finals with a lead, Reynolds wasn’t satisfied yet. Instead, he threw a personal best of 82’ 3 1/2" (25.08 meters) to shatter the previous NCAA Indoor Championship meet record, previously set by Wisconsin’s Michael Lihrman at 80’ 10 1/4" (24.64 meters) in 2015. This title-winning mark would also tie the No. 2 throw in collegiate history.

In his final two rounds, Reynolds threw 86’ 7” (24.56 meters) before cementing his title when no other competitors threw over 80 feet in the sixth round. As a Top-8 finisher, Reynolds earned his first D-I All-America honors, being named to the first team.

“We are very proud of the way Daniel stepped up in a big pressure situation,” said throws coach Paul Barrett. “He came in as the national leader and came out swinging on his first attempt.”

He added, “I can’t think of a better person to represent UW with class and humility. He is a special Cowboy who loves his university, state and track and field program. One of the best to ever wear the Brown and Gold.”

Reynolds joins three Pokes, Wesley Maiyo (1,000 meters) in 1974, Ryan Butler (Weight Throw) in 1996 and Shauna Smith (400-meter Hurdles) in 2005, to win a national track and field title. As the only Cowboy at the meet, his 10 team points for a first-place finish ties the most in men's school history, previously set in 1996 when Butler won the weight throw.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
