Pokes head to Arkansas for NCAA West Preliminary Round

LARAMIE -- Twelve qualified athletes from the University of Wyoming Track & Field Team will suit up and compete at the West Regionals of the 2022 Division One NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships set to take place in Fayetteville, Ark., from May 25-28.
The top-48 athletes from each region will compete this week in their respective events with the top 12 finishers from both the West and East heading to Eugene, Ore., and the 2022 NCAA Division One Outdoor Championships to be held on June 8-11.
2022 Mountain West Champion Kareem Mersal along with the second-place finisher Hunter Brown will be the first in action for the Brown and Gold as the Men’s Long Jump will take place at 6PM (CT) on Wednesday at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Joseph Rogers will run in the 800M slated for 7:50 also on Wednesday night.
Mary Carbee who was added to the field of 48 on Monday morning will get things going on Thursday morning for the Cowgirls with the Hammer Throw at 10 a.m. Shayla Howell, a 2022 NCAA Indoor Track & Field All American, will compete in the Long Jump at 6 while Leah Christians will finish off the second day of competition with the 10000M at 910.
Four Cowboys will compete on Friday with two in the 3000M Steeplechase and two in the Discus. Nathan Reid and Tarique George will kick the day off for the Pokes with the Discus at 1 while Albert Steiner and Seth Bruxvoort will run the Steeplechase at 540.
The fourth and final day of the West Prelims will feature Katelyn Mitchem in the Steeplechase at 5:40 and Aumni Ashby in the Triple Jump at 6.
