LARAMIE – The University of Wyoming wrestling team heads west for a dual at Oregon State on Sunday. The start time is set for 3 p.m. inside Gill Coliseum.

The Pokes possess a 5-5 overall mark on the season. However, the way in which they’ve reached .500 through 10 duals has been anything but consistent.

That was on full display at the NWCA National Dual Meet Championships this past weekend. The Cowboys got off to a slow start and rallied for a victory, started strong and held on for a win and showcased stoutness throughout a match en route to a dominating decision.

The task now is to eliminate the ebbs and flows within a dual and focus on performing at a high level throughout all 10 bouts.

“I would love to see us exhibit some consistency in our wrestling,” head coach Mark Branch said. “That is something we haven’t really done as individuals or as a team. We wrestled poor in a lot of positions at National Duals, but we have spent some quality time this week examining those positions, so I expect us to wrestle better technically and have more awareness in situations.”

Branch was able to find some consistency in who will wrestle in his starting lineup. The beginning of his lineup is likely set with Garrett Ricks (125), Stockton O’Brien (133), Cole Brooks (141), No. 20 Gabe Willochell (149), No. 17 Jared Hill (157) and Cooper Voorhees (165).

The back couple of positions are also locked up with No. 11 Joey Novak (197) and Sam Mitchell (HWT). It’s the 174- and 184-pound positions that are still in need of settling. It could be two of four – Ethan Ducca (174/184), Riley Davis (174/184), Eddie Neitenbach (184) or Quayin Short (174/184) – that round out the lineup.

Oregon State is a deceptive 1-4 on the season with three of those losses coming to top-five squads. The Beavers boast five ranked guys in No. 9 Maximo Renteria (125), No. 28 Nash Singleton (141), No. 23 Ethan Stiles (149), No. 7 Trey Munoz (197) and No. 20 Brett Mower (HWT).

Oregon State has doubled the Cowboys up in the all-time series, owning a 24-12 lead. The Beavers have won the most recent three matchups, including last year’s in Laramie, 34-6.

Following the trip to Corvallis, Wyoming returns home for the first time in over two months. The Cowboys host Utah Valley and Cal Baptist on Friday and Saturday night, respectively. Both duals commence at 6 p.m. inside the UniWyo Sports Complex.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
